‹ Amazing coincedence: Dewitt County Chupacabra sighting •
Channel 4 News’ Alex Thompson asking if the International Olympic Committee is embarrassed about being duped on the right to free protest during the Beijing Olympics. Watch here. Given the general credulity of the press it’s a nice reminder that some of them are capable of trolling.

Alex Thompson was in very poor form when he tried to pressurise the poor defenceless (but unflappable) female IOC spokesperson. Are all Britishers - both oiks and toffs - losing their inhibitions and become an embarrassment to the rest of the world. First we had the British football hooligans, then the British lager-louts vacationing in Europe, now we have the bully-boy journalists who can’t accept that a reply is an answer whether or not it is the one you want. Uggh, what a boor Alex Thompson is. Regards John Boon, Albany, Western Australia.

Well bravo ‘poor, defenseless’ Giselle for being so ‘unflappable’.
John, dear, let me break this down for you: as a Communications Director Giselle Davies gets paid by the IOC to take flack and deflect awkward questions. Alex Thomson is a journalist, he gets paid to ask awkward questions. It would appear that the Chinese authorities have broken the promises they made to the IOC about press freedom, and so it is perfectly acceptable that Thomson, as a journalist, should want to press the ICO’s Communications director for a response.
Like Thomson said, his question was a simple one, assertively delivered. Nothing wrong with that.
